This year again we are introducing cherry-blossom spots near Ikaho, in several notes. See also (1), (2), and (3).

1. Mizusawa Kannon

Gotokusan Mizusawa Kanzeon, the 16th temple of the Bandō pilgrimage, was founded around the time of Empress Suiko and is known as Mizusawa Kannon.

In spring, Somei-yoshino in the precincts and the parking area greet visitors. Along the street in front of the gate stand shops for Mizusawa udon, one of Japan’s three famous udon.

  • Best viewing: typically mid through late April
  • Address: 214 Mizusawa, Ikaho-machi, Shibukawa, Gunma
  • Variety: Somei-yoshino

2. Shibukawa City Comprehensive Park

In the distance you can see the Tanigawa range; in front stands magnificent Mt. Akagi. Walking paths and sculptures are set in harmony with nature, and under birdsong people of all ages can enjoy the outdoors.

There are several cherry viewpoints in the park, and hanami comes a little later than in the city center.

  • Best viewing: typically mid-April
  • Address: 4230 Shibukawa, Shibukawa, Gunma
  • Variety: Somei-yoshino

The photos were taken on earlier visits.

The temple is on the Sightseeing page as Mizusawa-ji. Later in the year it has Yukinoshita. The park also holds the Shibukawa Cherry Blossom Festival.
