This year again we will introduce cherry-blossom spots near Ikaho, in several notes. The first is Cherry-blossom spots near Ikaho (1).

1. Shinkō-ji, in the town of Shibukawa

Famous for Somei-yoshino, weeping cherry, and an Edo-higan said to be about 250 years old. In early summer the temple also blooms with hydrangeas, and is called a hydrangea temple.

  • Best viewing: early through mid-April
  • Address: 748 Shibukawa, Shibukawa, Gunma
  • Varieties: Somei-yoshino, weeping cherry, Edo-higan

2. The cherry avenue at the JSDF Somagahara training ground

Together with cherries nearby, about 3,000 trees can be enjoyed.

  • Best viewing: typically mid-April
  • Address: Hirobaba, Shinto Village, Kitagunma District, Gunma
  • Variety: Somei-yoshino

Saturday 11 April will also be the 12th Brigade’s 25th anniversary and Camp Somagahara’s 67th anniversary commemorative event. We hope the cherries are still in bloom by then. The next note is Cherry-blossom spots near Ikaho (3).
